Course Description
This training will provide in depth knowledge and skills in relation to the different systems which are used at the international courts and tribunals. The speakers cover document management, managing defence investigations and managing each stage of trial proceedings. This training is suitable for current staff at the international courts as well as those who wish to pursue a career in international criminal law.
Jason Antley and Anand Shah
Jason Antley is currently an Associate Legal Officer with the Ayyash Defence Team in the Ayyash et al case at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. He previously worked as Case Manager for the Ayyash Defence, and as a Case Manager / Legal Assistant for the Zupljanin defence at the ICTY. Mr. Antley was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2016, and is a member of the International Bar Association and an associate member of the ADC-ICTY. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (2004) and Masters of Arts (2006) from the University of Florida, and a Juris Doctor (2011) from Florida Coastal School of Law. Mr. Antley previously taught history classes at the University of Florida and Santa Fe College, and feels strongly that Moby Dick is the best book ever written.Anand Ajay Shah (M.A., J.D.) is an American attorney (New York State Bar) who works as a Legal Assistant on the Defence for Abdallah Banda before the ICC. He previously served as a Legal Assistant or Case Manager on four ICC defence teams representing Bahar Abu Garda, Saleh Jerbo, Francis Muthaura, and William Ruto. He also worked as a Legal Assistant on the defence for Al Jadeed S.A.L. and Karma Khayat before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. From 2007 to 2009, Anand was a Senior Research Associate at the Public International Law and Policy Group, and provided legal assistance and policy advice to the then regional Government of South Sudan, including assisting in the Abyei arbitration before the Permanent Court of Arbitration. From 2011-2015, he served as the defence representative on the ICC’s E-court User Group, which was mandated to review and implement changes to the Court’s ‘e-court’ systems. He is an active member of several NGOs focusing on peace, justice and conflict resolution issues, and is an elected member of the International Criminal Court Bar Association's Amicus and Counsel Support Staff committees.
